Bio
New Jersey native Josh Gamboa began his studies in music at the age of 6 and as a violinist at the age of 10 at the Third Street Music School Settlement in Manhattan where he also studied piano and composition. He then made his violin début at Carnegie Hall at the age of 13 in 2003 as part of the New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Program. He has attended festivals and seminars including the Summit Music Festival, Brevard Music Center, and the Making Score Composer’s Workshop, and served as an apprentice conductor of the New York Youth Symphony during which he conducted the première of his own work Manifestation at Symphony Space. As an advocate for new music, he has performed works with instruments of Harry Partch and has collaborated with the Crash Ensemble. Master teachers he has performed for include Claude Frank, Ida Kavafian, Daniel Phillips, and Fred Sherry. His teachers include Weigang Li of the Shanghai Quartet, Daniel Andai, and Claire Smith. Joshua is currently in pursuit of a joint Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from the John J. Cali School of Music and Political Science at Montclair State University.
He identifies strongly with Progressive/Liberal social and economic policies, is a practicing Nondenominational Christ-follower and a registered Republican.
